By referral, we mean an active and documented exchange of client's personal details with us, in order for us to make contact with them to arrange further advice - a referral is not the same as "signposting". The advantages of referrals are that Citizens Advice services are heavily oversubscribed, and yet we wish to actually support those in the greatest need. If you are working with someone or simply know of their problem, and it is serious, or complex, or if they are vulnerable, it will ensure that they are contacted. It also means, depending on the circumstances, that we can work in partnership.
